Did you know that a metal arch with “Forsyth” on it once spanned Highway 41 at the city’s southern limits?

Highway 41–the “Dixie Highway” it was sometimes called–was an important artery for Florida-bound tourists.  Those returning north would know that they had arrived in Forsyth when they came to the arch, anchored on two brick pillars, on either side of the narrow road.  Closely resembling the arch on the Tift College campus, the Dixie Highway arch was removed more than 75 years ago.

The Dixie Highway stretched from Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, south through Forsyth, Georgia, all the way to Miami, Florida.
